Thurs March 31st 14:25 Hold that... There was a port starboard at the finish. The port boat took out Thomas and he had to flip to avoid them. I can here Jacques from here (just kidding). They weren't but 50 feet from the finish! They lost a bunch of places. Looks like they should get a redress.
14:18 Top five are Enrique Figueroa - Echavarri - Thomas - Heemskerk - Moana
14:15 The first boat at the finish is Figueroa again. Looks like the RC is trying or a couple more races.
13:50 The first boats are around the top mark on the second race of today. First around is Figueroa followed by Echavarri - Thomas - Keag - Pertron
13:25 First across the finish line is Enrique Figueroa followed by Moana - Loic and Thomas!
13:00 The fleet is working downwind. The first boats are around the gate.. Looks like a course one. One more time to the top mark and down again to finish. First through the gate is Enrique Figueroa by a minute and a half! Second is Loic and third through is Moana.
12:50 They are on the first weather leg. Looks like they are nearly at the top mark. Wind is still 6-8 kts from the north west.
12:15 They are off the beach. Wind is 6-8 knots on the course. Very light inside with breaking waves that are making launching difficult. At least one boat went over after struggling for a time.
10:15 Wind has died off. The AP is up.
09:30 Signal has notified the beach that they are expecting an on-time start this morning... 10AM
08:20 Good Morning! The weather in Santa Barbara appears to be... uh... normal? We can certainly hope so! It does look like a more typical day with light winds from the north west, but... the weather report is for 15-25 out of the north east. We will see.
Wed March 30th, 22:30 By the way... it is still CRANKING here. Huge gusts blowing off shore.
22:20 Oh my... if this is anything like what the Cangas Spain Hospitality is like... "I" HAVE to be there in 2006. Cangas has just provided us with a spectacular party on the beach in the Hobie Village. What a beautiful night. Stars shining, rum and wine flowing and the dancers swaying to latin, spanish and rasta beats! YEAH! Tomorrow? Hey... I'm not racing.... lets PARTY! Music from the Hobie 16 Worlds of Neumea is playing over the sound system. The dancers are loving it!
20:00 After a great first race today in good solid winds, it then proceeded to quiet down to a more moderate breeze for the second race. The first race was held in the more normal prevailing breeze and local Larry Hartek made the most of it by heading straight to the shoreline. Those out to sea were dogmeat. No-one went out to sea on the second beat.

The second race was in more moderate 12 knot breeze and a tightly packed field. While waiting for the start of the third race the two winds in the area started fighting, with 180 degree different breeze at the top and bottom of the course. The Race Committee then moved the whole course out further from the shore and eventually started a third race. However the breeze became very, very patchy and the race was called off, much to everyone's delight. Even the team leading the race were pleased as they knew that it was unlikely that they would be leading at the finish.

Everone then headed for the beach and the celebration party put on by the organisers of the next Tiger World Championships to be held in Cangas, Spain. Their delegation brought over dozens of bottles of Spanish wine and the sailors felt that it would not be good for them to have to pay excess baggage on the return flight. They are saving me a bottle - time to redeem it!

The forecast for tomorrow is for strong winds again for the final day of sailing.

16:05 And they're off!

Tues March 29th, 14:55

AP / A just hoisted. Races canceled for today. Windspeed at the clubhouse is now in the 20s. RC says the weather mark was recording 22-30 knots and 10 foot breaking waves.
12:20 A variety of issues for the delay. Forcasts for high winds, easterly winds to the east, westerly winds to the west, no wind or lots of wind. Conditions remain unstable. RC had recorded 20-25 mph.
11:15 Wouldn't you know it... Winds have increased to sustained 20s at the RC. They are seeing 6-8 foot seas at the weather mark... AP / H is flying. Back to the beach!
11:35 They are off the beach. We are using a safety officer for boat check-in and out . Winds are in the high teens and currently building.
08:25 noaa.gov forecast: Tuesday. Partly cloudy. Breezy. Highs in the 60s to lower 70s. Through and below passes and canyons. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 45 mph in the morning.

Mon March 28, 16:00

Can you say... Windy?

Races have been cancelled for the day and the wind is still building.

Mon March 28, 14:30

The site had been down for hours! Sorry about that.
The conditions for racing have been extreme to say the least. Large numbers of boats have retired. The wind was in the upper 20s with gusts and large waves. Lots of broken boats and sails. 4-6 boats beached south of the harbor. Paul Pascoe says that Laruffa had to do several "granny dives" to get across the finish. Granny dives?

Mon March 28, 11:50 AM They have had difficulty anchoring the Signal boat. They should be starting a sequence in the next few minutes. Wind is in the low 20s with big gusts. Several boats have returned and retired. We have had many capsized and some apparent damaged boats from a collision.
Mon March 28, 10:25 AM Off they go on the practice start.
Mon March 28, 10:10 AM They are headed out for a practice start... a photo op today! It is blowing. Wind is from the north west at approx 20 mph. We are expecting a helicopter at about 13:30. They should be shooting some great stuff. We will have some video and images from yesterday up shortly.
Sun March 27, 15:15 PM They are just coming in from some practice races at the moment. The wind had finally filled in a bit. Light still.. maybe 5-10 mph. The welcome party is tonight at 5PM. BBQ and Beers at a beautiful park on top of a hill overlooking the city of Santa Barbara.

Sun March 27, 10:00

The Easter Bunny has been and gone, a small group are recovering from Jeff Alter's birthday celebrations from the night before and people are rigging on the beach. The sun is shining, but no wind as yet. A practice race is scheduled for 1pm this afternoon and results will be posted here later today.
Sat March 26, 16:00 The containers have arrived, the boats are being measured and rigged, the sun is shining and the beer is in the cooler. All systems are ready to rock and roll for the first day of racing on Monday.
