2004, The year of the Cat.
 

Dear friends around the world:
33 years ago, Hobie Alter with a 16”, drew a wake in the waters with the first cat that could fly.

From that moment this powerful sea-cat became the most well known catamaran in the Americas and the entire world.

Many centuries ago, another cat was also a living symbol. The Mayan would worship the Jaguar and call it “Balam”. For them it was the master of the jungle, representing power, courage, speed, skill and bravery.

In 2004, as organizers of the Hobie 16 World Championship, we will host the “cats” of land and sea. We will show our ability, modernity, dynamism and the reflection of our national identity, based on a natural empathy with other people and cultures.

Our hospitality, our Mayan maritime heritage and our will to contribute to the prestige of this great competition are our best credentials. Besides that, we have all that it's needed: the facilities, the enthusiasm, and above all, the passion. The land of the Mayan is ready to welcome you all.
