Hobie Youth Challenge 2003

This event is organized by the International Hobie Class Association, European Hobie Class Association and the Lübecker Yacht-Club in conjunction with Deutscher Segler-Verband and with the assistance of the German Hobie Class.

1 Rules

The regatta will be governed by the current rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, , the rules of the International Hobie Class Association , (except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions) and by the sailing instructions.

2 Alterations of Racing Rules

The racing rules will be modified in accordance with rule 86 as follows:

2.1 Rule 44 will be altered by a 360° penalty turns including 1 tack and 1 gybe'

3 Eligibility and Entry

The regatta is open to Hobie 14, Tiger, Fox, FX-One, Hobie 16 (modified to include a spinnaker) and Dragoon. One crew member must be a paid-up member of a National Hobie Class Association or Hobie Fleet in good standing with the IHCA.

Hobie 16 Youth have an age restriction for skipper and crew to be 21years or younger at the start of the regatta. For the Hobie Youth Challenge 2003 the Hobie 16 will sail with spi kit, which are provided by the team or chartered from Hobie Cat Europe. Due to costs of transportation and handling a nominal fee of € 100.00 will be required from all Hobie Cat 16 Youth fleet crews that wanting to charter the Spi Kit. In addition, a refundable deposit of € 100.00 will be required from each Hobie Cat Youth fleet crew for the use of the factory Spi-Kit. No modification to the Spi-Kit shall be made without the prior written approval of the Race Committee. A limited number of Hobie 16 spinnakers are available at a first come basis, provided payment is received no later than 30th June 2003 to Hobie Cat Europe.

Dragoons sailors have an age limit 15 years or younger

3.4 All competitors entering the race shall have third party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 400,000.00. Competitor’s proof of insurance and coverage shall be provided at registration.

3.5 Eligible Hobie 14 sailors may enter on the attached Entry Form which shall be lodged with:

6 Measurement

Measurement is not required but each boat shall abide by the International Hobie Class Association Class Rules

7 Sailing Instructions

The sailing instructions will be available after 17.00 hours on 22nd of July 2003 at Lübecker Yacht-Club tent on the beach.

8 Courses

The course shall be Standard IHCA Class Courses

9 Scoring

The Low Point scoring system, Appendix A.4.1 will apply as modified by the International Hobie Class rules. For all events the minimum number of races to constitute a series shall be 1. If 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

10 Fleet systems

European Championship Hobie Tiger

If more than 60 boats enter in the Championship the Race Committee may sail a round robin series splitting the fleet.

11 Decisions of the Jury

Decisions of the Jury will be final in accordance with racing rule 70.4.

12 Prizes

The first 15 places in the Hobie 14 World Championships will be awarded prizes with the winner being the Hobie 14 World Champion. Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the organising committee. The first 5 teams in Hobie Tiger Europeans, Hobie Fox EuroCup, Hobie FX-One, Dragoon/Hobie Youth Challenge, and Hobie 16 Spi/Hobie Youth Challenge will receive trophies. Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the organising committee
